Andy Warhol - Biography

Warhol, whose name became synonymous with the pop art movement and cultural revolution of the 1960s, was born on August 6, 1928, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He became one of the most influential and famous artists of the 20th century, and his work left an indelible mark on the world of art and culture. Let's take a closer look at Warhol's biography and learn more about his amazing life and art.

Andy was born into a family of immigrants from Slovakia. His parents, Julia and Ondrej Warholov, worked in simple working professions. From childhood, Andy developed an interest in drawing and art, and his mothers supported his creative aspirations.

After graduating from high school, he entered Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, where he studied art and design. His talent was quickly noticed and he began working as an advertising artist and illustrator in New York City.

In the early 1950s, Andy moved to New York City, where his career began to take off. He worked in advertising and the arts, creating advertising posters and illustrations for prominent magazines. However, his true vocation was related to art and innovative ideas.

In the early 1960s, Warhol became one of the founders of the pop art movement that transformed art, making it closer to popular culture and consumer society. His works, such as the Coke Jars and Marilyn Monroe series, became symbols of this era. He used the technique of sitoprinting (silkscreen), which made his works more accessible and repeatedly reproduced.

Warhol also created "The Factory," an art studio where he gathered young artists and creative personalities around him. The factory became a place where not only painting, but also music, films and fashion were created, and it became the center of underground culture in New York.
