Arthur Conan was born on 22 May 1859 in Edinburgh, Scotland. He was the third child in the family and grew up in an environment where literary interests were excluded. In his youth, he attended the University of Edinburgh Medical School and subsequently received his M.D.

Despite his medical studies, Arthur Conan was always interested in literature and began to write. In 1887 he published his first novel, "The Story of Mikkaleson Thomas," but real fame came to him with the creation of Sherlock Holmes. The first Holmes story, "Blood Stage," appeared in 1887, and it was the beginning of a legend.

The Sherlock Holmes character became immediately popular. Arthur Conan created a brilliant detective capable of solving the most confusing riddles, and his faithful friend and biographer, Dr. Watson.
