Charles Dickens - Biography

John Gaffam Dickens (1812-1870) is a name that is associated with the golden era of English literature and the struggle for social justice. In this biography, we look at the life and work of a Dickens, his influence on literature and society.

Charles was born on February 7, 1812 in the port city of Portsmouth, England, the son of Navalny clerk John and Elizabeth Dickens. He was the second of eight children in the family and spent his early years in London.

The Dickens family ran into financial difficulties, and Charles began working at a young age to support the family. These early experiments had a great influence on his later work, where he often described the lives of the poor and children inside the dark streets of London.

Charles began his career as a journalist and wrote for various newspapers. In 1836 he published his first novel, "The Pickwick Club." However, the real breakthrough was the release of Oliver Twist in 1837. This novel about orphaned children and social injustice became popular and brought Dickens first fame.

The following years were a period of intense creativity for Dickens, and his novels such as "David Copperfield," "Great Hopes," "Martin Chuzdykh" and "Domby and Son" gained worldwide popularity. His works have been translated into many languages and continue to be read and studied around the world.

Charles was a passionate advocate for the rights of the poor and a promoter of social justice. His works often revealed the lives of the poor and oppressed, and also revealed the problems of education, health care and housing in 19th-century England.
