Charles Dickens - Biography
Biography by Charles Dickens - The Life and Work of the Great English WriterCharles Dickens is a name that stands outside of time and geography. This distinguished English writer has left an incredible legacy in the world of literature and social progress. In his works, the images and fates of people of the 19th century come to life, and his passion for the struggle for social justice makes him a person who deserves admiration and respect. In this biography, we take a look at key moments in Charles's life and work.
Charles was born on February 7, 1812 in the port city of Portsmouth, and his family soon moved to London. Childhood was not simple - the family was in financial difficulties, and in his youth he had to work in a clothing factory, where he faced cruel working conditions and poverty. These early impressions greatly influenced his views and inspired his writing career.
Dickens began his literary career as a journalist and correspondent for various London newspapers. His first works were notes about everyday life and everyday people. He used the pseudonym "Boz" for his publications, and this allowed him to gain popularity as a writer with a sense of humor and the ability to identify social flaws.
However, the real breakthrough was the release of his first novel, "The Pickwick Club" (1836-1837), which immediately caught the attention of readers with its lively characters and sharp charm. From that moment began his great career as a writer.
One of the most outstanding features of creativity was his social engagement. In many of his novels, such as "Oliver Twist," "Nicholas Nickleby," "Father Gorio," and "Great Expectations," he addressed themes of poverty, inequality, cruelty, and the struggle to survive in English society of the era. His writings were a powerful cry for the oppressed and prompted discussion of social reform.
