China Tom Miéville was born on September 6, 1972 in Norich, UK. His family was academic and cultural, and he grew up in an atmosphere of discussions of literature and art. This intellectual stimulus had a huge impact on his future creativity.

China studied at Oxford, where he studied anthropology and sociology.
