David Garrick - Biography

Garrick (David Garrick) was born on February 19, 1717 in Gerfordshire, England, in the family of a French immigrant. He became one of the most important figures in the history of English theatre and had an indescribable influence on the stage arts of his time.

David was educated at Westminster School and then attended the University of London. He began his career as a lawyer, but soon realized that his real passion was theatrical art. His decision to move to the stage was decisive, and he became an apprentice to famed actor Thomas Souza to master the art of acting.

He made his stage debut in 1741 in London, where he acted as Richard III. His talent and charisma were indescribable, and he quickly became one of the most famous actors of his time. His roles included a wide range of characters, from tragic to comic, and he is considered one of the first actors to give realism and emotionality to the performance of roles.

David is not only an outstanding actor, but also a theater reformer. He made significant contributions to the development of the stage arts. His changes in theatre included more natural stage lighting, realistic sets and costumes, and an emphasis on acting skills and emotional delivery of roles. These innovations made his theatre productions more lively and compelling, and they influenced the future development of the theatre.

In addition to his acting career, Garrick was also a playwright. His comedies and dramas, such as The Clandestine Marriage and The Country Girl, were successful and continue to be staged on the stages of British and world theaters. His work reflected his versatile talent and perspective on the society of his time.

David was also a successful theatre manager. He ran London's Dryery Lane Theatre and brought many innovations to the organisation of theatre shows. His theatre became the centre of London's cultural life and he attracted famous actors and audiences.
