Edward Thomas - Biography
Thomas (Edward Thomas) was born on March 3, 1878 in London, England. He became one of the most important and influential poets of the early 20th century, although his literary career began relatively late and his life was brief but vivid.Edward was born into a teacher's family and spent his early years in London. He received a good education and developed an interest in literature from an early age. In 1897 he entered the University of Oxford, where he studied classical literature.
After graduation, Edward worked in journalism and wrote articles and reviews for various publications. His first book, The South Country, was published in 1909 and brought him some fame. However, real success came to him with the publication of poetry collections, starting with The Hills and the Vale in 1909.
Edward was a close friend and inspiration to Georg Eliot, a noted poet and literary critic. Under his influence Edward began writing poetry, and this transitional moment in his career made him one of the most original and important poets of his time.
His poems were often associated with nature and the places in which he lived and traveled. He masterfully described English landscapes and created images that remained in the readers' memory.
World War I had a profound impact on the work of Edward Thomas. In 1915, at the age of 37, he volunteered for the front and joined the army. The war poems he began writing during this time became one of the most important and influential war works in English literature.
