Eldo Leopold - Biography
Leopold was born on January 11, 1887, in Bur-Ok, Yavapai, Arizona, United States. He grew up in a family where the values of nature and natural protection occupied an important place. His parents, Carl Leopold and Carolina Goetzeus, were educated people who paid much attention to the environment. This parental influence became the basis for Leopold's future conservation work.Eldo earned a bachelor's degree in forest engineering from Utah State University and a master's degree in forest science from Yale University. His education is extremely high quality and prepared him for a future career in the field of forests and environmental protection.
After completing his education, Eldo worked as a forester in the western United States and was engaged in forest management. In 1924, he joined the United States Forestry Service and began to engage in scientific activities and environmental protection research. His work was aimed at studying and improving the management of forests and natural resources.
However, Eldo gained the greatest fame and influence as an author and conservation philosopher. His book "A Sand County Almanac," published in 1949, became a classic of environmental literature. In this book, he describes his observations of nature and concludes that man should be an "accomplice" of nature, and not just a "predator." This book became the basis of modern environmental ethics and conservation philosophy.
His concept of "landscape ethics" implies that a person must perceive himself as part of the landscape and take care to preserve his biodiversity and ecological integrity. This idea had a significant impact on the development of environmental science and policy.
Eldo was an active supporter of the conservation movement and participated in the development of conservation strategies for natural resources. He was a founding member and active member of The Wilderness Society and other conservation organizations.
