Eli Michelson - Biography

Michelson is a name that has become a symbol of great scientific advances and tenacity in research. A great optician and physicist, he left an indelible mark on the history of science thanks to his experiments, which upended ideas about the speed of light and strengthened the foundation of modern physics. In this biography, we look at Michelson's life and scientific achievements, his influence on the world of science, and his eternal contributions to fundamental knowledge.

Albert Eibraham was born on December 19, 1852 in the city of Prague, which was part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire at that time. His family was Jewish and raised him in the spirit of education and knowledge. From an early age, Ely developed an interest in science and technology, and his abilities quickly became apparent.

After the family moved to the United States of America, he entered Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. Here he continued his scientific research and became interested in optics and physics.

One of Eli Michelson's most famous achievements was his experiment on measuring the speed of light, which was carried out at the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century. The speed of light was known with good accuracy, but sought to refine this magnitude with even greater accuracy.

Using an interferometer that he himself developed, Michelson conducted a series of experiments, including the famous Michelson-Morley experiment, which was designed to look for ether, an environment suggested by a theory that would explain the propagation of light. However, Michelson's experiments showed that the speed of light does not depend on the movement of the Earth relative to the ether. This discovery was a key point in the development of Albert Einstein's theory of relativity and upended the scientific worldview.

After successful experiments, he continued his career in the scientific world. He worked at various universities, including the University of Chicago, where he became a noted lecturer and scholar. His research in optics and interference had a profound impact on the development of physics.
