Eli P. Wiesel - Biography

Wiesel, a prominent Jewish writer and social activist, was born on September 30, 1928 in Sighet, Transylvania (currently Sighetu Marmacke, Romania). He grew up in a believing family and was one of four children. His father, Shlomo Wiesel, was a small trader and his mother, Sarah Feiga, was a housekeeper.

During World War II, Eli and his family were deported to the Auschwitz concentration camp. This terrible experience left an indelible mark on his life and in his writing. lost his mother and younger sister in the camp, and survived the unimaginable suffering and horrors of the Holocaust.

His best-known book, "The Night" ("La Nuit"), recounts his experiences in Auschwitz and Buchenwald, and it has become one of the most important literary accounts of the Holocaust. decided to testify about the victims of the Holocaust and do everything possible so that the world does not forget about this terrible tragedy.

After being released from the camp, he moved to France, where he was educated and began his literary career. His first book, "La Nuit" (Night), was published in 1958 and was an instant success. It was written in French and later translated into many languages around the world.

Eli Wiesel continued to write about the Holocaust and his experiences in the camps in other works, including "Zora" and "The Day," making him one of the leading authors to devote his life to the memory of the Holocaust and the struggle for human rights.

Wiesel was an activist and human rights activist. He participated in various movements and campaigns aimed at preventing genocide and violence, and at protecting human rights. He was a founding and active member of the Congress of Jewish Intellectuals and chairman of the United States Holocaust Office.
