Ellie Wiesel - Biography

Wiesel: The Life and Memory of the Outstanding Holocaust Survivor and Nobel Laureate

Ellie (1928-2016) is a name that will always be associated with the darkness of the Holocaust and the hope of humanity. He was a prominent Holocaust survivor, writer and activist whose contributions to world literature and the fight for human rights remain invaluable. In this biography, we will talk about the life and legacy of Ellie Wiesel, a man whose voice has become a symbol of survival, memory and the struggle for peace.

Ellie was born on September 30, 1928 in the city of Sighet, which was located in what is now Romania. His family was Jewish and lived in conditions where cultural and religious heritage played an important role. Ellie was one of four children in the Wiesel family, and his parents encouraged his interest in education and religion.

In 1944, when Ellie was still a teenager, his family and thousands of other Jews were deported to Nazi concentration camps during the Holocaust. Ellie and his father were separated from their mother and younger sister, who later died. He himself survived Auschwitz's inferno, and later Buchenwald concentration camp, where he first met the liberators in April 1945.

The experience experienced in concentration camps changed Ellie forever and influenced his writing talent. After his release, he decided to share his terrible experiences with the world so that the memory of the victims of the Holocaust would never disappear. His book "The Night" (Elie Wiesel's "Night") became one of the most influential Holocaust literary works and was translated into many languages.

As well as talking about the horrors of the Holocaust, Ellie has become a vocal human rights advocate and peace activist. He believed that the world should learn from the mistakes of the past and prevent genocide and human rights violations. was one of the founders and active member of the Commission for the Protection of Holocaust Sites in the United States.
