Ellinor Emilia was born on December 19, 1868 in Lafayette, New Hampshire, USA. She was the second child in the family and grew up in a large and friendly family. Her childhood was filled with joy and tenderness, and she often found inspiration in her own memories of parents and loved ones.

However, Ellinor's life was not devoid of difficulties. In 1892, at the age of 24, she married John Lyman Porter. They had no children in the marriage, and a few years later the marriage broke up.
