Emily Dickinson - Biography

Dickinson: A name that involves deep feelings, intimacy and magical power of words. This mysterious American poet left an indescribable mark in world literature, despite the fact that most of her life was lived in relative isolation. In this biography, we will immerse ourselves in the life and work of Dickinson, explore her unique biography, magical poetry and eternal topics affected by her poems.

Emily was born on December 10, 1830 in Amherst, Massachusetts, USA, to Edward Dickinson and Emily Norcross Dickinson. She was the second child in the family and grew up in a rich and educated environment. Her father was a successful lawyer and politician.

The family was very close and Emily was particularly attached to her brother Austin and sister Lavinia. As a child, she attended private schools and developed an early interest in literature and poetry.

However, despite her educated background and primary education, Emily began to lead a life in isolation and moved away from public life. Since the mid-1850s, she began to stay in her home in Amherst, rarely leaving it. Her isolation aroused interest and speculation, and there is still no unambiguous explanation for this phenomenon.

Emily spent a lot of time reading and writing, creating poems that became her real skill. She also maintained a close relationship with some correspondents, including Thomas Wentworth Higginson and Susan Gilbert Dickinson, her close friend.

Emily left behind about 1800 verses, most of which were published after her death. Her poetry is distinguished by a unique style and a strong attention to detail and language. Her poems often deal with the themes of life, death, love, nature and spirituality.
