This Romanian playwright, of French origin, is considered one of the key figures in the history of the theater of the 20th century and the literature of the "theater of the absurd." Eugène was born on 26 November 1909 in Slaveni, Romania, to French parents. His early years were very turbulent: his father committed suicide, and the family moved to France, where Eugene began to study at college. This instability and tragedy had a strong influence on his work.

His debut in the world of drama was seen in 1950 with the play "La Cantatrice chauve," which became a symbol of the theater of the absurd.
