Euripides - Biography
(Euripides) was born around 480 BC on the island of Salamis in ancient Greece. He became one of the greatest playwrights of antiquity and one of the three great tragedians, along with Aishil and Sophocles, whose works had a profound influence on the development of ancient Greek drama and literature.Little is known about Euripides' early years. He was born into an aristocratic family, and probably received a good education. His dramatic career began in Athens, where he began writing tragedies for drama festivals.
Euripides was known for his originality and innovations in drama. He made significant changes to the structure and content of tragedies. Unlike traditional tragedies, where gods were often the main drivers, Euripides focused on human characters and their psychology. His characters were more realistic and complex, and they often faced moral dilemmas.
Among the most famous tragedies written by Euripides, it should be noted "Medea," "Hippolytus," "Electra" and "Troad." In these works, he touched on a wide range of topics, including love, betrayal, revenge and fate. His tragedies often caused debate and controversy, and they remained relevant to modern viewers and readers.
Euripides had a difficult relationship with the Athenian public and political figures of his time. His critical views on public and political issues have at times caused discontent. He left Athens and spent part of his life in other cities in Greece.
Euripides passed away in Macedonia or on the island of Aegina around 406 BC. His work continued to be supplied on the stages of Athens after his death. He left an indelible mark on the history of drama and literature, and his influence is felt until today.
