Ezra Pound - Biography

Pound: A name associated with innovations in literature, the poetic revolution and vivid counterversions. This distinguished American poet and literary critic left an indelible mark on world literature, making significant contributions to modernism and modern poetry. In this biography, we will immerse ourselves in the life and work of Ezra Pound, explore his influence on literature and society, and consider the counterversions associated with his name.

Ezra Loomis Lummis was born on October 30, 1885 in Galesburg, Illinois, USA. He grew up in a family of educated parents who encouraged his interest in literature and music. From an early age he showed a talent for writing and poetry.

After graduating from high school, Ezra attended the University of Pennsylvania before moving to Harvard University, where he studied classical philology and English literature. His education greatly influenced his future career as a poet and critic.

Early in his career Ezra wrote poetry inspired by the English romantic tradition, but over time his style and views began to change. He became one of the important figures of modernism and began experimenting with the form and structure of poetry.

He was also active in literary criticism and made significant contributions to American and world literary culture. His essays and critical works such as "Literary Cubism" and "The Constitution of Canadian Confederation" became important documents of modernist literature.

Ezra was one of the most counter-revolutionary figures in world literature. His political beliefs and actions during World War II led to his arrest and a charge of betrayal. He was held in custody and spent more than 12 years at St. Elizabeth Psychiatric Hospital in Virginia.
