Farley Mowat - Biography

Mowat (Farley Mowat) is a name associated with an ardent passion for wildlife, biological diversity and literary art. He was born on May 12, 1921 in Belleville, Ontario, Canada, and his life and career left an indelible mark on the world of literature and conservation.

Farley spent his childhood and youth in Canada, where his passion for nature and animals emerged from a very young age. His family supported his interests, and he began to study and observe the local fauna and flora. This passion became the basis for his future career and literary creativity.

After graduating from high school, Farley entered the University of Toronto, where he studied biology and natural science. During World War II, he served in the Canadian Army and was assigned to intelligence. His service brought him experience and knowledge that became useful in his future travels and studies of nature.

Farley began his literary career in 1952 with the publication of his first book, People of the Deer. This book chronicled his travels and explorations among the Inuit in the Northern Peninsula. It became a bestseller and brought Movat recognition as an author and natural scientist.

Subsequent books by Farley Mowat, such as "Lost in the Barrens," "The Dog Who Wouldn't Be," and "Business Rabbit" ("Never Cry Wolf"), were also successful and continued his nature and adventure themes in the wild. His writing style was light and picturesque, and his work was extremely popular with readers of all ages.

Farley was not only a writer but also a conservation activist. His books and lectures often raised questions about the need to protect wildlife and combat environmental threats. He actively supported organizations working in the field of nature conservation, and called for respect for the environment.
