Fidel is a name associated with historical change in Cuba and influence on world politics. He was a Cuban revolutionary who was able to overthrow the dictatorial regime of Fulgencio Batista and establish a socialist system on the island. In this biography, we look at his life, political career and influence on modern history.

Fidel Alejandro Rus was born on August 13, 1926 in the small Cuban village of Biran. He was educated as a lawyer and politician, and early in his career was an active supporter of the struggle against the dictatorship of Fulgencio Batista. Together with his brother Raoul and other revolutionaries, he formed the July 26 movement, which became the core of the future revolution.

The Cuban Revolution began on July 26, 1953, when Fidel and his comrades attempted to overthrow the Batista regime by capturing a barracks in Santa Clara. After an unsuccessful attempt, they were arrested, but later released. Revolutionary events in Cuba continued, and in 1959 both his supporters were able to overthrow Batista and establish a new regime.

Fidel Castro declared Cuba a socialist republic and began to establish a socialist order. This led to the nationalization of industrial enterprises and land, which caused tensions with the United States. In 1961, there was an unsuccessful attempt to invade Cuba by Kuban ex-patriots and American forces (Brigade 2506) on Pigs Bay.

The Cuban leader also became a key figure in the Cold War and established a close relationship with the Soviet Union, leading to a missile crisis in 1962. Subsequently, Cuba became a key alliance of the USSR in the region and supported various revolutionary movements in Latin America and Africa.
