Franklin Pierce - Biography
Pierce (November 23, 1804 - October 8, 1869) was a name associated with the history of the United States of America and in particular the history of their presidency. Pierce became the 14th president of the United States and played an important role in the political events of his time. Franklin was elected the 14th President of the United States in 1852. His presidency turned out to be a difficult period for the country, as it coincided with tense events related to the issue of slavery and the threat of the coming civil war.
One of the most important events of his reign was the Compromise of 1850, which was an attempt to settle issues related to slavery between the northern and southern states. The compromise included the adoption of California as a free state, but also the tightening of laws on the return of runaway slaves. This compromise could not completely prevent the coming civil war, but temporarily calmed the tension.
Pierce was also active in foreign policy affairs. One of his achievements was the conclusion of the Third Freimont Treaty with China, which expanded trade relations between the two countries.
