Gabriel García Márquez - Biography
Marquez was born on March 6, 1927 in Aracataca, a small town in Colombia. He grew up in a family where books and literature were valued. In his early years he developed an interest in art and writing.After leaving school, Garcia entered the University of National Ukraine in Bogota, where he studied journalism. His journalism career began in the early 1950s, when he began writing for various Colombian newspapers and magazines.
Gabriel Garcia began his literary career as a writer of realistic short stories and novels. He wrote about life and mundane events in Colombia, often giving his works magical realism - a style that became a feature of it.
However, Garcia achieved real fame with the release of his novel "One Hundred Years of Solitude" ("Cien años de soledad") in 1967.
