Geoffrey Chaucer is a name that stands for centuries in the world of literature. His contribution to 14th-century English poetry and culture cannot be overstated. Chaucer is the author of the famous Canterbury Tales and is considered the father of English literature. In this biography, we will tell you about the life and work of this great poet.

Geoffrey was born in 1343, probably in London, the son of a winemaker and property owner. Little is known about his early life, but it is assumed that he was educated at Art. Petersburg Church School and subsequently studied at the University of London.

Early in his career, Geoffrey served in the royal court. He participated in a number of important diplomatic missions, including in Italy and France. Travel and communication with different cultures and languages had a significant impact on his later work.

Jeffrey gained the greatest fame and recognition thanks to his magnum opus - "Canterbury Stories." This literary work consists of more than twenty stories told by travellers travelling to Canterbury to visit a sacred site associated with St Thomas Beckett. Each story is a miniature work and reflects different aspects of life and society of the XIV century.

Canterbury Tales is an amazing collection of diverse genres and themes, including comedy, tragedy, satire, religious allegories and ballads. They also demonstrate the author's skill in creating characters and describing social phenomena of his time.
