Jacob Gershwin - Biography

Gershwin (Jacob Gershwin), better known as George Gershwin, is a name that will forever remain associated with great American music. He was one of the most influential and famous composers of the 20th century, who created many unforgettable works. Let's plunge into his life, creativity and contribution to world art.

George was born on September 26, 1898, in Brooklyn, New York, to Jewish immigrants from Russia. Already at an early age, he showed great interest in music and began self-study in piano. His talent was clear, and his parents supported his musical passions by sending him to music lessons.

George's first big success came with his work in the world of musical theatre. His compositions for Broadway shows quickly became popular, and he received invitations to work on musicals. His collaboration with his brother Ira Gershwin and text writers such as Dewey Hayward and Ira Gershwin brought many hits, including "Fantastic Comedy" (Funny Face) and "Crazy 20s" (Crazy for You).

In addition to his work at Broadway, George also created concert compositions that became an integral part of American musical culture. His Rhapsody in Blue and An American in Paris are considered musical masterpieces and represent the American sound. He also wrote the opera Porgy and Bess, which became a classic work.

George Gershwin was a huge influence on musical art and became one of the pioneers of American music. His bold combination of classical, jazz and popular music elements created a unique style that inspired many composers and musicians. His melodies are still performed and remain eternal.

George's personal life was modest. He did not marry and had no family of his own, preferring to devote himself to music and creativity. Tragically, his life was cut short at the age of just 38. On July 11, 1937, he died of a brain tumor, leaving the musical world in regret.
