Boswell, a Scottish writer and traveller, left an indelible mark on literary history as the author of the famous biography "The Life of Samuel Johnson." James was born on 29 October 1740 in Ayrshire, Scotland, the son of a wealthy judge. From an early age, his passion for literature and desire to become a writer manifested itself.

However, real fame came to Boswell during his travels. In 1763 he went to London, where he met Samuel Johnson, one of the most influential writers of the era. This meeting was a decisive moment in his life. became interested in Johnson's personality and decided to write his biography.

He spent the next few decades traveling in Europe and North America, while actively keeping diaries and writing down his impressions. His travels allowed him to meet many famous personalities and writers of his time, including Robert Burns, Voltaire, Russo and many others. It is important to note that he left behind an extensive corpus of texts in which he detailed his meetings and impressions.

However, his most famous creation was the biography "The Life of Samuel Johnson," which he began writing in 1773 and completed after Johnson's death in 1784. This work is considered one of the greatest biographies in the history of literature and is an invaluable source of information about the life and work of Johnson.
