Jane Austen - Biography
Jane Austen was born on December 16, 1775 in Steventon, Hampshire, England. She was the seventh of eight children in the family of priest George Austin and his wife Cassandra. Jane was educated at home, but also attended school in Reading, which was unusual for girls of the time. She began writing at a young age, creating short stories, plays and poems for the family circle. The atmosphere of family support contributed to Jane's literary endeavours, and in the late 1790s she began work on the first versions of her future novels, including "Reason and Feeling" and "Pride and Prejudice." However, only in 1811, when Jane signed a contract with a publisher under the pseudonym Lady, her first novel, Mind and Feelings, was published. This work immediately gained popularity, and later followed "Pride and Prejudice" (1813), "Mansfield Park" (1814) and "Emma" (1815), which were also popular with readers.
The writer is known for her sharp view of the life of the English nobility of the early 19th century and her skill in depicting interpersonal relations. Her works are characterized by an elegant style, witty dialogue and deep psychologism. Jane Austen passed away on July 18, 1817 in Winchester, leaving behind six completed novels that continue to be published to this day and inspire many film adaptations.
Jane Austen is rightfully considered one of the greatest writers of English literature, and her works are classics that do not lose their relevance in our time.
