Joan Kathleen (born July 31, 1965) was born in Yatesbury, Gloucestershire, England. She was the second child of Peter Jonas Rowling and Anne Wolton Rowling. The family lived in the vicinity of Bristol and Joan spent her childhood in this part of England.

From an early age, Joan showed an interest in reading and literature. Her parents supported her interest, and she would tell stories to her younger sister and write her first short stories.

The idea for a young wizard named Harry Potter came up with Joan during a train trip from Manchester to London. During this trip, she began to develop the plot and characters that became the basis for her first book, "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone."

Starting with this first book, Joan created a fantasy world that quickly won the hearts of millions of readers around the world.
