John Ray was born on February 8, 1955 in Johnesboro, Arkansas. After completing his law degree, John began his career as an attorney while working at a small law office. His real passion, however, has always been writing, and he began writing his first novels during the free minutes.
His debut novel, "Time to Kill" (1989), became a sensation and drew attention to the topic of racial bias and trials in the American South. However, a real breakthrough for Grisham was the publication of the novel The Firm (1991), which became a bestseller and was later filmed.
