Let's look at Hersey's biography and his meaningful contributions to literature and journalism.

John was born in Tianjin, China, where his parents worked as missionaries. His family returned to the United States when he was still a young boy. They subsequently moved to Roseland, Massachusetts, where John spent most of his childhood and youth.

After graduation, John began working in journalism. He has written for various publications, including "Time" and "Life." His ability for careful analysis and deep understanding of events made him a sought-after journalist.

During World War II, Hersey worked as a correspondent in Europe. His reporting on the war, concentration camps and urban destruction attracted great interest and earned him a reputation as a distinguished war journalist.
