The American mythologist and author of Hero of a Thousand Faces had a huge influence on literature, cinema and culture in general. Joseph Campbell was born on March 26, 1904 in White Plains, New York, USA. His family valued education, and Joseph was surrounded by books and knowledge from his childhood. He attended Columbia University and received a master's degree in literature and philosophy. This education became the basis for his future studies of mythology.

Upon completion of his education, Joseph Campbell began to travel and study world mythology. He traveled throughout Europe, Asia and South America, absorbing knowledge of myths and religious traditions of various cultures. These travels became the basis for his future work and inspired him to create his own unique theory of the mythological path.

Joseph Campbell's most famous and significant work was The Hero with a Thousand Faces, published in 1949. In this book, he presented his theory of the monomyth, or hero myth, which combines mythological stories and religious traditions of different cultures. According to his theory, all myths and religious narratives follow a particular pattern that describes the hero's journey, his trials and return with gifts for society.

Joseph Campbell's theory had a huge impact on literature and film. For example, the movie "Star Wars" and the novel "The Lord of the Rings" are prime examples of works inspired by Campbell's theory.
