Karleren Jacobson - Biography

Biography a Jacobson: Distinguished Linguist and Structuralist

Karleren (October 18, 1896 - February 13, 1982) is a name associated with in-depth studies in linguistics and literary theory. A Swedish linguist and literary critic, he is considered one of the founders of structuralism in linguistics and had a huge influence on the modern understanding of language and its role in culture. In this biography, we look at key moments in the life and scientific activities of Karleren Jacobson.

Karleren was born in Moscow, Russian Empire to a Jewish family. His childhood was filled with languages and cultures, as he grew up in the multicultural environment of Moscow at the beginning of the 20th century. In 1920, during the civil war, he left Russia and went to Czechoslovakia, where he continued his education at the University of Prague. There he studied philosophy, literature and linguistics.

After graduating in Prague, Karleren continued his research in linguistics and structuralism. He became known for his contributions to the development of structuralism and structural linguistics, which changed ideas about language and its functions.

Jacobson was one of the first to introduce the matching method into linguistic research. He developed a theory that a language consists of various elements that can be analyzed and matched together to understand its structure and functions. This method became key in structuralist linguistics and influenced many other fields, including anthropology and literary criticism.

Karleren also made important contributions to literary theory. He worked on text research and structures, which led to the development of the theory of "communicative function" in the literature. He highlighted various levels of language, including phonological, syntactic, and semantic, and showed how they interact in literary works.
