Langston Hughes quickly became famous in the American literary environment. His poems, filled with emotion and social criticism, began to be published in various magazines and newspapers. His first famous article, "The Negro Artist and the Racial Mountain," was published in 1926, in which he urged African-American writers and artists to free themselves from the "racial mountain" and look for their own voice.
His poetry collections such as "The Weary Blues" and "Montage of a Dream Deferred" received critical and audience acclaim. became an important figure in the "Harlem Renaissance" - a period in the history of African American culture when artists, writers and musicians concentrated in Harlem, New York.
