Luis Alberto Urrea - Biography
Born on June 20, 1955 in Tijuana, Mexico, Urrea grew up in a Mexican-American family on the border between Mexico and the United States. His family moved to San Diego, California when he was a child. This experience had a profound impact on his writing, and he became the literary voice of migrants and borders.Urrea received his bachelor's degree from San Diego University and then his master's degree from Columbia University. His education in arts and literature reinforced his passion for writing. His literary inspiration includes works by Latin American authors such as Gabriel Garcia Márquez and Julio Cortázar.
