Marcel was born into a wealthy family. His father, Adrien Proust, was a noted physician, and his mother, Jeanne Weil, was a pianist. Since childhood, he was surrounded by art and culture, and this greatly influenced his development as a writer.

Proust began his education in Paris, but soon moved to the Lyceum of Carlet, where his literature teacher, Leonine Mallarmé, became his mentor and inspiration. He also began to compose his first poems and essays during this period.

His first book, "Against the Wedding" (À la recherche du temps perdu), was published in 1896 and attracted great interest.
