Maria Skłodowska was born in Warsaw, which was part of the Russian Empire at the time and under Polish rule. After World War I, Maria actively participated in the organization of medical trains providing X-ray machines for the diagnosis and treatment of wounded soldiers. Her efforts have contributed to the fight against cancer and other diseases.
