Maxim Gorky - Biography
Maxim Gorky, real name Alexei Maksimovich Peshkov, was born on March 28, 1868 in Nizhny Novgorod, Russia. He began his life in poverty after the early death of his father, which forced him to try various professions, including work on the railway and on a ship. These hard experiments shaped him as a writer who seeks to describe the life and struggle of the common people.Gorky began his literary career in the 1890s, and by 1899 he was already famous for works such as "Makar Chudra" and "Chelkash." His stories and plays, including "At the Bottom" and "Bourgeois," often depict cruelty and hope in the life of the lower strata of society. Gorky became one of the first writers to use the socialist realism method in his works, emphasizing the importance of social and political change.
Gorky was active in the revolutionary movement, which led to his arrests and subsequent emigration in 1906. He lived in Capri and Sorrento (Italy), where he wrote some of his famous novels, including "Mother," which was a significant contribution to revolutionary literature.
The return to the Soviet Union in 1928 after almost twenty years abroad was marked by his active participation in the cultural life of the country, including the leadership of the Union of Soviet Writers. However, the last years of his life were marked by a difficult relationship with the Soviet regime.
Maxim Gorky died on June 18, 1936 in Moscow, leaving behind an extensive literary legacy that continues to inspire readers and researchers around the world. His works remain relevant because of their deep social and human content.
