Michelangelo Buonarroti - Biography

Born March 6, 1475 in the small town of Caprese, located in the Tuscany region, Italy. He was the eldest of five children in the Buonarroti family and showed a talent for art already in early childhood. His father, Ludovico Buonarroti, was an official and looked disapprovingly at his son's pursuit of the arts.

At the age of 13, Michelangelo was sent to Florence, where he became a student of the best masters of his time. Domenico Ghirlandayo became his mentor, and later he studied in the sculpture workshop of Lorenzo Medici. This was the beginning of a long and successful journey in art.

Michelangelo became famous for his sculptural works, which are considered the greatest in the history of art. His early works include sculptures such as "Pieta" (1498-1499) and "David" (1501-1504). The "Pieta" was created in the Vatican and is an image of the Virgin holding the body of the crucified Jesus. "David" is a sculpture measuring 5.17 meters, depicting a young David, ready to fight Goliath.

However, Michelangelo's most famous and impressive work is the fresco "The Creation of Adam" (1512), located on the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel in the Vatican. This artwork depicts the moment God passes life on to Adam through touch with his fingers. The mural has become one of the most recognizable and influential works of art in world history.

Michelangelo was also involved in painting, although he considered himself primarily a sculptor. His paintings include series of allegorical frescoes, such as "The Trial" on the Sistine Chapel and "The Last Supper" in the library of the monastery of Santa Maria della Grazia in Milan. "The Trial" depicts Doomsday scenes and was created in impressive dimensions.

Michelangelo also had a significant influence on architecture. His works include designing St. Peter's Cathedral in the Vatican and participating in the construction of the facade of the Palazzo Vaccio in Florence. His designs and architectural ideas have inspired architects and researchers so far.
