Nelson Rolihlala was born into a family of cosmopolitan tambu, the Xhosa people. His grandfather was the chief of his tribe, and the Mandela family was associated with historical events in South Africa. grew up in the village of Kunu in Eastern Province and got his name "Rolihlala," which can be translated as "hard to cause problems."

After graduating from high school, he entered Fort Hare University, where he began his studies in bachelor's programs. He later transferred to Ford Ham University, where he continued his studies and received a bachelor's degree and a bachelor's degree in law.

At the turn of the 1940s and 50s, Mandela joined the African National Congress (ANC), an organization fighting against apartheid policies, a regime of racial discrimination introduced by the South African government. Within a few decades, he became one of the key figures in the anti-apartheid movement.

Mandela was active in anti-apartheid activities, organizing protests, strikes and other protests. In 1961, he became commander of the armed wing of the ANC, leading to his arrest and conviction to life imprisonment in 1964.
