Oscar Wilde - Biography

Wilde is a name that has become a symbol of refinement, wit and counterversions. This Irish writer and playwright became famous for his vivid and satirical works, as well as his extraordinary lifestyle. Let's delve into Wilde's biography, from his childhood to his influence on 19th and 20th century literature and culture.

Oscar Finnegan was born on October 16, 1854 in Dublin, Ireland, the son of the famous doctor and writer William and Cissy Wilde. His family was educated and wealthy, and Oscar received a quality education, going to Trinity College, Dublin, and then to Oxford University.

Wilde always drew attention to himself with his sharp mind and literary talent. His career began as a writer and poet, and already in early works his satirical style and graceful writing were visible. He traveled around Europe, getting to know famous writers and artists.

Wilde moved to London, where his wit and charm won the audience. He became known for his witty and aphoristic utterances, which were collected in a variety of quotations and aphorisms. His comedies such as "The Perfect Society" and "The Princess and the Pot Man" were successful onstage.

One of the most famous and important works is the novel "Portrait of Dorian Gray," published in 1890. This novel explores the theme of moral degradation and vice in upper class society and remains relevant today.

Wilde also became known for his overt homosexuality, which was a crime at the time. His relationship with Lord Alfred Douglas led to a trial which resulted in a two-year high sentence. After his release, he went into exile in France.
