Pablo Picasso - Biography

Ruiz Picasso (1881-1973) is a name that shines with a bright light in art history. He became one of the most influential and important artists of the 20th century and left an indelible mark on world painting. In this article, we invite you to delve deeper into the life and work of Picasso, study his biography, the periods of his work and the influence he had on world art.

Pablo was born on October 25, 1881 in Malaga, Spain. His talent for art emerged from his earliest years, and his father, an artist and art teacher, became his first teacher. Already in adolescence, he demonstrated an incredible feeling and skill in drawing and painting.

In 1895, at the age of 14, he entered the Royal Academy of Arts in Barcelona. In 1900 he moved to Paris, which became his second home and inspiration. In France, he quickly joined the art community and began to experiment with different styles.

In early works, two important periods can be distinguished - "pink" and "blue." The "Pink Period" (1904-1906) was characterised by its use of bright colours and depiction of circus performers, urban poor and harlequins. "The Blue Period" (1901-1904) was a period of melancholy and deep reflection reflected in his writings, including depictions of the homeless and suffering.

In the early 1900s, Picasso became one of the founders of Cubism, an artificial movement that upended the idea of painting and space. His works, such as "Avignon Maidens" (1907) and "Guitar and Violin" (1912), were distinguished by an analytical approach to decomposing objects into geometric shapes and surfaces.

In the following decades he continued to develop his style and experiment with various techniques. In the 1920s, he became involved in surrealism and created famous works such as "Dove of Peace" (1949). In addition to painting, he was also actively involved in graphics and sculpture.
