Raymond is a name associated with the golden age of American detective literature. An American writer, creator of the character Philip Marlowe and one of the founders of the noir genre, he left an indelible mark on world literature. In this biography, we examine the life and work of Raymond Chandler, exploring his childhood, professional career and influence on the genre of detective literature.

Raymond Thornton was born July 23, 1888, in Chicago, Illinois to Irish immigrant parents. His childhood was not too easy, and the family moved often due to financial difficulties. Shortly after Raymond was born, his parents divorced and he remained in his mother's care.

After graduating from high school, Raymond went to Blackburn College in England, where he studied journalism and classical literature. His education also included the study of English literature and languages, which was important in shaping his literary style.

After returning to the United States, Raymond Chandler worked in various fields, including military service during World War I and later work in the oil industry. He also tried himself in various professions before deciding to devote himself to a literary career.

Raymond began his literary career relatively late, at the age of 44, when he published his first story, Blackmailers Don't Shoot, in Black Mask magazine in 1933. The account was the beginning of his landmark series about private investigator Philip Marlowe.
