Rex Stout - Biography

Biography a Stout: Life and Creativity of the Great Master of Detective Novels

Rex Stout is a name associated with brilliant detective novels and the unique detective Niro Wolf. This American writer is considered one of the greatest masters of the detective genre in the history of literature. In this biography, we look at the life and work of Rex Stout, his influence on world literature, and the importance of his works.

Rex Todhunter was born on December 1, 1886, in Nobleville, Indiana, United States. He grew up in a family where reading and education were valued, and the young Rex quickly became a passionate reader. His parents encouraged his literary interests and allowed him to read a wide range of books.

After leaving school, Rex entered the University of Kent (Kenyon College), where he studied literature and classical sciences. Here he also began his writing career, publishing poetry and short stories in a university newspaper. Upon graduation, he moved to New York and began working in various fields, including publishing and advertising. These experiments and knowledge were useful to him in the future when creating his literary works.

Rex Stout began his career as a writer by publishing short stories and novels in magazines and newspapers. His first novel, "How Like a God," was published in 1929. However, he began to enjoy real popularity with the appearance of the character Niro Wolf.

The first novel about Niro Wolf, "Fer-de-Lance," was published in 1934. Niro Wolf is a brilliant detective with eccentric character traits: he is a foodie, an orchid lover, does not leave his home and rarely meets clients. Together with his loyal assistant Archie Goodwin, he created one of the most recognizable pairs of detectives in world literature.
