Rumi - Biography

Mevljana Jalaluddin, often referred to simply, was a prominent poet, thinker and mystic whose contribution to world literature and spirituality remains undeniable. His poems about love, faith and the spiritual path inspire and enlighten the minds of people around the world. Let's dive into Mevljana's biography and learn more about his amazing life and work.

Mevlyana Rumi was born on September 30, 1207 in the city of Balkh, which is located in modern Afghanistan. In his youth, his family moved to the city of Konya, which was part of the Seljuk Empire. In Konya, he received an education that included the study of classical Arabic literature, religious texts and sciences.

However, the most important event in Rumi's life was a meeting with Shams-i Tabrizi, a mystical teacher and philosopher, in 1244. This meeting became key in his spiritual journey and inspired him to create his greatest poetic works. The relationship between Rumi and Shams symbolizes sincere spiritual love and the search for truth.

Influenced by spiritual experiences and meeting Shams, Rumi began writing his poems, which became known as "Masnavi-i-Ma'navi" or simply "Masnavi." This large-scale poetic work includes more than 25,000 verses and addresses themes of love, faith, spiritual path and unity with God. Rumi used metaphors and allegories to express his spiritual ideas, and his poems still inspire many readers today.

Based on the teachings of Rumi and his poetry, the Mevlevian Order was created, also known as the Order of the Sufis or "Dancing Dervishes." The order practices dhikr - spiritual practices and prayers, as well as choreographic movements, including characteristic circular dances. These dances symbolize the search for spiritual proximity to God and unity with Him.

Mevljana Rumi left an indelible mark on world literature and spirituality. His poems on love and faith have been translated into many languages and continue to be read and studied throughout the world. His philosophy of spiritual love and unity with God influenced many thinkers and poets.
