Salman Rushdie - Biography

Biography a Rushdie - Life and Creativity of the Famous Writer

Salman is one of the most celebrated and influential writers of the 20th and 21st centuries. His life and work are inextricably linked to politics, religion and freedom of speech. In this extensive biography, we take a look at key moments in his life and analyze his contributions to world literature and culture.

Salman was born on 19 June 1947 in Bombay, British India (today Mumbai, India). He was the eldest of four children and grew up in a family where education and culture were valued. His father worked for a British company and was a supporter of Laicism, and his mother was an educator. Salman was educated in England, where he attended the University of Cambridge. There he studied history and literature.

Salman began his literary career working for an advertising agency, but soon decided to devote himself to writing full-time. His debut novel, "Thunderstorm" (1975), immediately caught the attention of critics and readers for its style and theme. However, he managed to achieve real world fame thanks to the novel Children of Midnight (1981), which won the Booker Prize and made him a literary celebrity.

In 1988, Salman Rushdie's life changed dramatically after the release of his novel "Satanic Poems," which sparked a wave of protests and threats from Islamic religious leaders. Rushdie was accused of blasphemy, fatwa (death sentence) was declared by Iranian religionists. As a result, Rushdie was forced to hide and live under guard, which lasted for many years.

Salman has always stood in the position of defending freedom of speech and expression. His case became a symbol of the struggle for literary and religious freedom. His works, despite the counterversions, continue to be popular and inspire writers and readers around the world.
