Samuel Taylor Coleridge - Biography

Coleridge: A name associated with deep philosophical reflection, poetry, exploration of the human soul, and contributions to Romantic-era English literature. In this biography, we will immerse ourselves in the fascinating world of this outstanding English poet and philosopher, explore his life, creativity and enormous influence on world literature and philosophy.

Samuel Taylor was born on 21 October 1772 in Ottrey, Cumberland, England. His parents were parishioners and he grew up in a religious family. Already in early childhood, his passion for reading and studying manifested itself, and he was recognized as a gifted child. Later, he entered the University of Cambridge, where he studied classics and literature.

In the early 1790s, he began his poetry career, and his first poems were published in various literary magazines. He also moved to London, where he met other famous poets, including William Wardsworth.

However, one of the most significant moments of his creative biography was his collaboration with William Wardsworth. They worked together on a collection of poems called "Lyrical Ballads," which became an important event in the history of English poetry. This collection included poems characterized by deep philosophy and romantic emotionality.

In addition to poetry, Samuel Taylor Coleridge was also famous for his philosophical works. He was one of the leading philosophers of his time and studied topics such as human nature, religion, art and ethics. His works, such as The Biographia Literaria and Reflections on the French Revolution, became important texts in the history of philosophy and literature.

In the late 1790s, he wrote his famous work The Rime of the Ancient Mariner, which became one of the most famous and influential poetic texts of English literature. This poem combines elements of adventure and Gothic literature, as well as exploring themes of sin, redemption and nature.
