Timothy Miles was born on 10 November 1944 in Amersham, Buckinghamshire, UK. His musical inspiration came from his childhood, and he began to take an interest in writing and words. As a young man, Tim wrote poetry and lyrics, and his talent was evident.

The first successes came to Tim Rice in the 1960s, when he began a collaboration with musician Andrew Lloyd Webber.
