After graduating from high school, Wendell entered the University of Kentucky, where he began to study English literature. However, his education was temporarily interrupted when he was drafted into the army and served in Germany.

After returning from the army, he continued his studies at the University of Kentucky, where he completed his education. His interest in literature and writing intensified, and he began to produce poems and essays, which would become iconic works of his work.

Wendell became known as the author of numerous novels, poems, and essays dealing with nature, rural life, ecology, and society. His works are distinguished by deep philosophical reflections and metaphors, which often turn to natural phenomena and processes.

One of Wendell Berry's most famous novels, Jayber Crow, tells the story of a young priest who returns to his hometown to become a steamboat and live in harmony with nature. This book became a symbol of his philosophy of life and cultural criticism.
