Stephen King's audiobook Misery tells the story of writer Paul Sheldon, who, after a car accident, ends up in the home of his devoted fan, Annie Wilkes. At first, she cares for him, but it soon becomes clear that her attachment to him is painful and dangerous. When Annie discovers that Paul intends to write a new novel, she demands that he write a sequel to her favorite book, and any attempts by Paul to leave her house lead to threats and violence.

King masterfully creates an atmosphere of mounting horror and tension by exploring themes of addiction, psychopathology and fear. "Misery" immerses the listener in a world of manipulation and fear, questioning the boundaries of reality and fiction. This work is a prime example of King's skill in creating psychological tension and studying the dark aspects of human nature.
