Harry Turtledd - Biography
Turtldov's biography began in a family of Russian immigrants. His parents moved to the United States, fleeing the dire aftermath of World War II and the Nazi occupation of Russia. This legacy of Russian roots influenced his future work, especially in the alternative history genre. However, his interest in history and alternative scenarios began to take shape at an early age. He was passionate about World War II history and began asking himself "What would happen if..." This question was embodied in his future works, which made him a popular author.
Harry's education is also important in his biography. He earned a bachelor's degree in history from UCLA and a master's degree in history from UCLA at Fullerton. This education enriched him with knowledge of the past and contributed to a deeper exploration of topics he then embodied in his books.
Harry Turtledow's first book, which brought him recognition and success, was the novel War of the Worlds, published in 1979. This novel offered an alternative version of the story where alien invaders attack Earth during World War I. The book quickly gained popularity and became a classic of the alternative history genre.
After the success of The War of the Worlds, Harry Turtldov continued his creative work, creating many other works in this genre. His books are known for their deep research work and careful analysis of historical events. He often asks "What would happen if Event X happened differently?" and tries to answer those questions through his novels.
One of Harry's most famous book cycles is "The World Where We Are." In this cycle, he explores alternative U.S. histories, from the Civil War to the present day. His writings in this cycle, such as "North vs. South" and "The Thunderstorm of the East Gate," shed light on how America could evolve if history took a different path.
